Send with Amazon SES from Emerge

Amazon Simple Email Service is AWS's high-volume sending service and usually the cheapest way to send at scale. Connect it to Emerge and your campaigns, automations and site email go out through your own SES account, at SES prices, with Emerge doing the contacts, templates, scheduling and tracking.

Why use Amazon SES with Emerge

  • High-volume newsletters where cost per email matters
  • Teams already on AWS
  • Keeping full control of your sending reputation and IPs
  • Your domain and reputation stay yours — Emerge adds contacts, templates, campaigns, automations, tracking and bounce handling on top

1. Get your Amazon SES credentials

  1. 1

Create an IAM user for Emerge

In the AWS console open IAM → Users → Create user. Give it a policy that allows sending through SES (ses:SendEmail, ses:SendRawEmail and ses:GetAccount) — AWS's AmazonSESFullAccess managed policy works, a narrower custom policy is better.

  2. 2

    Create an access key

Open the user → Security credentials → Create access key, choose "Application running outside AWS", and copy the Access key ID and Secret access key. AWS shows the secret only once.

  3. 3

    Note your region

SES is regional. Use the region where your identities are verified, such as us-east-1 or eu-west-1.

2. Authenticate your sending domain

SPF, DKIM and DMARC are what let inboxes trust your mail — without them it’s far more likely to land in spam.

  1. 1

    Verify your domain

In SES open Verified identities → Create identity → Domain, and turn on Easy DKIM. Add the three CNAME records SES shows to your DNS; the identity turns Verified once they resolve.

  2. 2

    Leave the sandbox

New SES accounts start in the sandbox and can only send to verified addresses. Open Account dashboard → Request production access before sending to real contacts.

  3. 3

    Add DMARC

A DMARC record on your domain (start with p=none) is expected by Gmail and Yahoo for bulk senders.

3. Connect Amazon SES in Emerge

In Emerge, open Senders, click the provider's button and fill in the form. Emerge checks the credentials with the provider before saving anything, and stores them encrypted.

Access key ID
From the IAM user's access key.
Secret access key
Shown once when you create the key.
Region
The SES region your domain is verified in, e.g. us-east-1.
From email
An address on your verified domain.

Then send yourself a test email from the sender’s row. You can add more senders to the same pool — Emerge rotates between them and moves on if one fails or hits its limit.

4. Report bounces and complaints back

SES reports bounces and complaints through Amazon SNS. Create an SNS topic, add an HTTPS subscription with the webhook URL from Emerge's Senders page → Bounce reporting → Amazon SES — Emerge confirms the subscription itself.

Then in SES open your identity → Notifications and set that topic for Bounce and Complaint feedback.

Once bounces come back, Emerge stops sending to those addresses, and pauses a campaign whose bounce or complaint rate gets too high.

Good to know

  • Your SES sending quota and rate still apply — set a daily quota on the sender in Emerge to stay under it.
  • Attachments and List-Unsubscribe headers are supported.
