Send with Mailgun from Emerge

Mailgun is a developer-focused email API with US and EU regions. Connect a Mailgun sending domain to Emerge to send campaigns and automations through it, with Mailgun's signed webhooks bringing bounces back.

Why use Mailgun with Emerge

  • Developers already on Mailgun
  • EU data residency (Mailgun's EU region)
  • Sending from a dedicated subdomain
  • Your domain and reputation stay yours — Emerge adds contacts, templates, campaigns, automations, tracking and bounce handling on top

1. Get your Mailgun credentials

  1. 1

    Find your private API key

In Mailgun open your account settings → API Security (API keys) and copy the private API key. Emerge uses it both to send and to check the webhook signatures Mailgun adds.

  2. 2

    Note your region

Accounts and domains live in the US or the EU region — your dashboard address shows which (app.eu.mailgun.com is EU).

2. Authenticate your sending domain

SPF, DKIM and DMARC are what let inboxes trust your mail — without them it’s far more likely to land in spam.

  1. 1

    Add a sending domain

Open Sending → Domains → Add new domain. A subdomain such as mg.example.com keeps marketing reputation separate from your main domain.

  2. 2

    Publish the DNS records

Add the SPF (TXT), DKIM (TXT) and tracking/MX records Mailgun lists, then click Verify DNS settings.

3. Connect Mailgun in Emerge

In Emerge, open Senders, click the provider's button and fill in the form. Emerge checks the credentials with the provider before saving anything, and stores them encrypted.

Private API key
Account settings → API Security.
Sending domain
The domain exactly as added in Mailgun, e.g. mg.example.com.
Region
US or EU, matching your Mailgun account.
From email
An address on that sending domain.

Then send yourself a test email from the sender’s row. You can add more senders to the same pool — Emerge rotates between them and moves on if one fails or hits its limit.

4. Report bounces and complaints back

In Mailgun open Sending → Webhooks, pick the domain, and add the URL from Emerge's Senders page → Bounce reporting → Mailgun for Permanent failure, Temporary failure and Spam complaints.

Emerge verifies Mailgun's webhook signature with your API key.

Once bounces come back, Emerge stops sending to those addresses, and pauses a campaign whose bounce or complaint rate gets too high.

Good to know

  • Each Mailgun domain is its own sender in Emerge — connect one per domain you send from.
